The Scene, Observed.
A weekly Substack. Letters from the field. Some are scenes, small, observed, written down before they get away. Some are takedowns. Some are tender. All of them are the long-form companion to Becoming Sovereign.
The room.
The Scene, Observed is the place the methodology breathes. The book is the spine. Field Notes are the methodology in working clothes. The Substack is where the writing lives in full register, narrative essays, rooms walked into and out of, archetype takedowns, tender notes, intellectual diet entries, scenes from Beirut and Paris and the country between them.
It is published weekly. It does not summarize. It is read by people who like to read.
What I write.
I write what I cannot stop noticing. A room walked into. A man whose money has a tone. The thing said at dinner you couldn’t un-hear. The kitchen in Douma, the grandmother on the phone. A sentence from Han or Ernaux that lands at the right hour.
Some weeks the writing is sharp. Some weeks it is tender. Some weeks it is both.
The work is to notice in the first place. The work after that is to put it down before it leaves.
